Before reading this book I thought ego was just a synonym for arrogance. I suppose in the true sense of the word it is…but ego is much bigger.
After reading this book I realized that a lot of my negative outlook on life was a result of my ego getting in the way.
Needless to say, this book was excellent and I recommend every person read it.
Even if you consider yourself a humble person, ego has a way of creeping into every major decision we make in life.
My favorite part of the book was the way in which it was written. Each chapter starts with a story about a famous person and how they either lost out to or conquered their ego.
From there Ryan expands your thinking on the subject of ego.
As a result of reading this book, I will take more time thinking about WHY I do what I do when confronted with a big life decision.
For example, ego tells you that you deserve a promotion at work. But if you don’t let ego get in the way you ask yourself questions like, “are you really ready for a promotion” and “are you ready for the responsibility that comes with a promotion”.
